As 2017 arrives, many people will be looking to give their home a revamp. Painting and decorating, new flooring and furnishings are all part of creating an exciting new look. Today we are taking a look into our crystal ball to spotlight some of the trends set to be popular in London and across the UK during the coming 12 months.
Rustic and Natural: Wood, cork, terracotta and other natural materials all look set to be in high demand in home interiors over the coming year, creating a warm atmosphere with a flavour of the countryside. In particular, cork will be used for all kinds of unusual items – with everything from plant pots to cushions and even handbags being created from this material. Rattan, bamboo and wicker furniture are also tipped to become even more fashionable over the year ahead. These natural, eco-friendly materials are perfectly complemented by quality hardwood floors, such as Xylo’s rustic oiled Knightsbridge European oak flooring.
Paint it Green – or Blue: Colourful feature walls have proved to be an especially strong trend during 2016, especially in London, and this looks set to continue during 2017. Grey, teal and assorted shades of pink have all been popular over the past year and there is no doubt this will continue. But now pundits are predicting that other colours will also give them some competition. Many experts tip dark green to be the colour of interior design over the coming year, as a warm and luxurious shade which also ties in with the trend to bring nature into the home. However, leading paint manufacturer Dulux has instead chosen a denim-flavoured blue as its colour of the year.
Extra Texture: “Hygge” is an idea imported from Denmark which roughly translates as cosiness. This trend has come into the spotlight during winter 2016/17, leading to a greater focus on making homes warm and welcoming. Layers of soft textures, such as cushions, throws and blankets, can help to give a warm feel, with luxurious fabrics such as wool and velvet being in demand. Thick curtains will add to the cosy look. Handmade and unique textiles can give a bespoke feeling to interiors, and hardwood floors will add to that theme, coming in a wide choice of shades and finishes to tone in with the décor and personal taste.
Reading Books – Every year, many of us make New Year’s resolutions to relax more, read more (whether on paper or eBook) and enjoy some well-deserved “me time”. In 2017 it is predicted that at least some people will stick to those resolutions all year, meaning interior design must adapt to meet their needs. Using space creatively can create small nooks or alcoves where one member of a family can take time out, relaxing in a window seat, a mini-sofa or even the space under the stairs.
Of course, while some of your customers may adopt a particular theme or colour for a home or business redesign, others will prefer to embrace a range of ideas to create a completely individual, bespoke look, perhaps showcasing their personal treasures and collections. Xylo has a wide range of wooden floors, as well as laminate and vinyl options, to complete any style of home décor. Click here to find your nearest Xylo Flooring stockist /
